5 Minimalist Outfit Ideas to Keep You Inspired

Hello friends! If you’ve been frequenting my blog, you’ll know that my personal style isn’t a perfect example of a minimalist wardrobe. I gravitate towards a variety of colors and also opt for subtle prints to elevate my outfit. Regardless of my preferred taste in the types of color palettes, I do have days where my mood prefers a shift to a more neutral selection of clothes. With that, comes in mind the minimalist wardrobe. I have a small section of my wardrobe that caters to my occasional need of a minimalist look.

Styling a minimalist outfit can be pretty tricky. You want to keep it clean and simple but not look too boring or basic. With neutral tones (often in black or white), an outfit can often come off as repetitive.

So, how can you create a look that is simple yet intriguing?

Below are a few ways I’ve styled my minimalist looks. Whether it’s similar to what you see on Pinterest or on Instagram, or entirely different, it doesn’t matter. How you style a minimalist outfit is unique to your own. The whole idea of a minimalist wardrobe is to have key pieces (suited to your style) of neutral clothing. Build around those pieces by following the few tips I have listed below and hopefully, you will have new ways to style your minimalist outfits!

Look 1 – Boss Babe

Blazer: Zara
Skirt: Lavish Alice

The first tip is to keep it interesting. Might seem like a general rule. But with the right layering technique, you can totally transform a white shirt and simple black skirt combo into a fashionable workwear. Change up the skirt for a thigh-high slit like this one, and pair it with lace-up kitten heels, and you have a street style look ready to go!

Note, if it gets too hot where you live, opt for cotton or thin material to layer on.

Layer whites to add depth to your outfit.

Look 2 – Trendy Chic

Change it up by adding flow to your outfit. Instead of wearing a plain crop top with black pants, try adding volume by opting for bell sleeves (or ruffles) with loose fitted wide-legged pants to give your look some movement. Another tip is to look for the latest trend and see how you can incorporate them into your minimalist style.

Look 3 – Ballerina Princess

Dress: Maje
Shoes: Tony Bianco

Fun, flirty and feminine. You can always be effortlessly chic. Try experimenting with different silhouettes. Ruffles and pleats add character to a simple outfit. A dress with voluminous bottom adds flirtiness to this outfit. The color is still true to a minimalist style, however, the prints and the shape of this dress creates an entirely different vibe on its own.

Try experimenting with different silhouettes.

Look 4 – Sexy Siren

Skirt: Topshop

For a fun twist, try faux leather for a change. Adding a little rock & roll to this simple yet fun outfit. My biggest tip for keeping a minimalist outfit interesting is by playing with different textures. I always keep my top and bottom textures different as it gives the outfit dimension. Next time you feel like your outfit isn’t doing much for you, change it up by having a textured top or bottom.

Look 5 – Girl Next Door

A minimalist wardrobe does not limit you to black and white. There are a number of colors that can be incorporated into your wardrobe. Try going for a little contrast. No this does not mean a bold red or anything too extreme. Try blush for example. Or in my case, khaki green. Even navy blue works well as a contrast. Find ways to add a dash of color to your wardrobe and you will see a difference!
